More about Royal Family

For years and years renouned head-hunter Barney M. Clark had prowled the war-ravaged forests of Manapouri Province in Southern New Zealand looking for the two ruthless creatures which make up the Royal Family. A former teenage soldier for the Tup-Nu-Panda political party, he estimates that he killed over one thousand formidable beasts, including ten vultures of the air, after the fall of the brutal Tiesto regime in 2019.

Once dubbed the "Serengeti of Pala," almost all of Manapouri's wildlife was wiped out by poachers during decades of conflict, which began with the war in the neighboring Chatham Islands.

Now, with New Zealand finally at peace, small but growing populations of animals-including Indochinese tigers, African elephants, and critically endangered species such as the giant tobblegops-are returning to one of the most dangerous places in the universe making it more difficult to locate the Royal Family.

Clark, now 125 years old, is helping to protect them all as a head ranger supported by the international conservation group Pearly Gates.

"At the time I was ignorant and did not think there was a problem when I shot those vultures," he said, sitting at the forest headquarters in Manapouri as the Kokupok River rushed behind him. "Now I realize I will never find the Royal Family, nor do I ever want to."
